Coaches Conduct

1. Remember that young people need a coach whom they can respect. Lead by example.

2. Be generous with your praise when it is deserved.

3. Never ridicule or shout at players for making mistakes or loosing a match.

4. Teach your players that the laws of the game are mutual agreements, which no one should  evade or break.

5. Be reasonable in your demands on the players’ time energy and enthusiasm. Remember that they have other interests and demands on their time.

6. Ensure that all players participate in matches. Players of all abilities require and deserve equal time.

7. Remember that young players play for fun and enjoyment and that skill learning and playing for fun have priority over highly structured competitions. WINNING IS NOT THE ONLY OBJECTIVE.

8. Develop player and team respect for the ability of opponents, as well as for the judgment of referees and opposing coaches.

9. Insist on fair play and disciplined play. Do not tolerate foul play, fighting or foul language. Be prepared to take off an offending player.

10. Set realistic goals for the team and individual players and do not push young players into adult like competitions.

11. Encourage young players to develop basic skills and sportsmanship. Avoid over specialization in positional ply during their formative years.

12. Create a safe and enjoyable environment in which to train and play.

13. Do not overburden young players with too much information.

14.  Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed on sound coaching principles and methods, and on the principles of growth and development of young people.

15. Be aware of the affect you have on growing children.

16. Never criticise the referee or assistant referee during or after a match in front of players or spectators.

17. Always thank the match officials and if they have made decisions, which require clarification, discuss the problems after everyone has changed.

18. Ensure that proper equipment and facilities are available at all times.

19. Seek and follow advice of a doctor or physiotherapist in determining when an injured player is ready to play again.

20.  Ensure that all your players know that bullying whether verbal or physical will not be tolerated within the club.

21. This list is inexhaustible and can be added to at any time.

ABUSE OF THESE RULES WILL LEAD TO DISCIPLINARY ACTION BY THE DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE!

Players Conduct

  1. Play for enjoyment, not to please your parents or coach.
  2. Play by the laws of the game.
  3. Always accept the referee’s decision.
  4. Play with control. Do not lose your temper.
  5. Play for yourself and your team – your team’s performance will benefit and so will your own.
  6. Be a good sport; applaud all good play whether by your team or the opponent.
  7. Respect your opponent. Treat all players, as you would like to be treated. Do not “bully” or take advantage of any other players.
  8. Cooperate with the coach, team-mates and opponents.
  9. Remember that the object of the game is to have fun, improve your skills, and feel good about your own ability
  10. At the final whistle shake hands with your opponents and the referee of the match.
  11. Always remember that you owe a duty of care to your opponents. Tackle hard but fairly, do not intend to hurt your opponent.
  12. Win with humility – lose with dignity.
  13. All players must play within their own age group! (Only exception being under 9s).
  14. Player will only be available for selection if at a minimum of one nights training that week!
  15. Training gear that is provided by the club must be worn to all training sessions!
  16.  Coats which are provided must be worn at all times when representing the club.
  17.  No other colours other than Loughsides must be worn to matches.

ABUSE OF THESE RULES WILL LEAD TO DISCIPLINARY ACTION BY THE DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE!

Parents Conduct 

     Loughside Football Club believes that parents / guardians play a very important role in their child’s development in sport. To that end, the club would ask all parents / guardians to contribute to the club and their child’s participation in sport. In particular the club expects parents / guardians to:

 

  1. Encourage but not force an unwilling child to participate in sport or in the club.
  1. Recognise that children’s enjoyment in sport and as a member of this club is paramount.
  1. Emphasise enjoyment and fun and praise and reinforce effort and improvement.
  1. Promote and teach fair play by setting a good example.
  1. Teach their child that effort and teamwork are as important as winning.
  1. Help their child to set realistic goals, improve their skills and develop a positive sporting attitude.
  1. Never ridicule or shout at any child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  1. Acknowledge and applaud good play by all players including opposing players. Parents / guardians should set an example by being friendly towards the opposing team, its supporters and parents.
  1. Publicly accept an official’s judgement and never question their honesty.
  1. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s sporting activities.
  1. Express any concerns about their child or the club to the nominated officer.
  1. Recognise the importance and value of coaches and others within the club who give their time, expertise and resources to provide for young people.
  1. Offer what assistance they can to the running of the club and support the club and their child where possible i.e. by providing transport which has to be fully legally roadworthy to training / competitions; watching matches and training sessions; making sure that their child has appropriate clothing and equipment; supporting fund raising and social events.
